Why does Miami University not get the credit it deserves?  Why does Miami U have to be known as Miami (OH)?  

    Now before all you University of Miamians start to talk just listen to my side ot the story.  Many of you out there might not even know there is a difference between Miami University and the University of Miami....but there is.  Miami University is located in the small town of Oxford on the southwest boarder of Ohio and Indiana.  The city of Oxford truely is a college town.  Not many towns have a population of 25,000 during the school year and 2,500 during the summer but Oxford does.  Granted Miami U doesn't play in a power conference (MAC) nor does its' football team or basketball team really succeed on a national level like Miami U's does, but why can't we get a little respect?  Why can't we be called Miami?  We are always known as Miami(OH.)  A saying we have here on campus is that Miami was a University before Florida was even a state and it's true, look it up if you don't believe me.  So why is it that "The U" gets to be known as Miami and not Miami(FL).  I can't tell you how many times people have asked where I go to school and I say Miami University, and they reply saying how lucky I am and how I get to enjoy the weather.  Well Miami U does have nice weather but obviously they are referring to the U.  Now I don't really have a problem with the U nor will I ever.  I recommend we call the two schools Miami U and U of Miami or "the U".  I just want them and all of America to understand that Miami U is known as one of the 8 "public ivies" and that the great Robert Frost had wrote that Miami U was "the most beauitiful campus there ever was".  With a business school in the Top 25, a Number 1 ranked hockey team at the start of the 2007-08 season, and much more, can't we all just recognize Miami U for the great school it is without disrespecting another school much farther south?  Maybe one day our team will be as good as "the U".  Maybe one day Miami U will be known and respected.  Thank you.
