Hi all,

I've seen a few posts by people who are having difficulty putting in the Wii version of Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09.  Here are some tips from the dev team that should help make putting easier.  Try them and let me know how they work out for you.

To Putt:

1) Move the aiming arrow using the D-Pad to the position you would like the ball to go to when you putt.

2) Once that is completed, press the minus button or hit the "Putt Preview" button in the user interface.  A line will be displayed on the ground that shows you exactly where the ball will go once you putt.  The line is drawn based on where your aimer is positioned, the power percentage that is recommended above the aiming arrow and the slope of the green.  Take note of where the line shows the ball going.

3) Dismiss the putt preview line by pressing the "minus" button or by clicking the "Putt Preview" button in the user interface.

4) If the Putt Preview line did not line up directly with the cup then adjust your aiming arrow to a new location that you think will.  If it did line up with the cup then no need to adjust.

5) Finally, putt the ball at the recommended power % that is displayed above the aiming arrow.  Power percentage is determined by the backswing so your forward speed will not matter.

Additional Notes:

1) It is not necessary to swing the Wii Remote like you do when driving a ball.  The putting motion is similar to a putting motion in real life.  Point directly down, hold the "B" button, pull back slowly until the power meter fills to the % you want and then swing forward.   Power percentage is determined by the backswing so your forward speed will not matter.

2) In order to “lock in” the power percentage on the meter, you need to pull back on the Wii Remote until the meter is filled to the power you desire.  Then, you need to swing forward quickly to lock in the power.  If you follow-thru too slowly, the power meter will drop.  We intentionally designed it this way so you could pull back/forward slowly on the backswing to find the precise power percentage on the meter.  The game will not register a hit unless you decisively swing forward in a quick motion.  It may take a few practice putts to find the correct tempo, but once you get the hang of it, it works really well.

Well, I don't think it works "really well" and thought 08 had it better. While your tips are good, often I dont have the luxury of using putt preview; in pga tour mode and online. in any case the only problem with your description is when you are putting up hill. It completely makes it difficult to judge how hard to hit it. In the end its just not realistic. there are five foot puts that require 100% hit; it doesnt make sense. short putts should be short swings. I think you will find the majority of folks find its the worst part of the game.
