Fan feedback from 275 million online games played shapes EA SPORTS FIFA SOCCER 10

New Innovations Change Player Control Experience in FIFA Soccer 10

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - June 3, 2009 - On the heels of winning 25 international gaming awards with FIFA Soccer 09, Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today revealed the first features for its top-selling soccer franchise from EA SPORTS. Responding to consumer feedback from more than 275 million online games played, FIFA Soccer 10 will deliver a new standard for authenticity with gameplay refinements and innovations that will make it the most complete and intelligent simulation of soccer.

On the pitch, critical gameplay fundamentals have been enhanced to ensure that FIFA Soccer 10 mirrors real-world soccer, providing more sophisticated ball control, and physical interaction between players. In addition, players now move, behave and position themselves more realistically. On attack, players analyze space more effectively, curve their runs in an attempt to stay onside, create passing lanes naturally, and drive for more variety in attacking options. On defense, new concepts like position priority enable defenders to multitask so dangerous spaces left open by teammates out of position are covered. Plus, slide tackle targeting, press marking, and better-urgency clearance logic provide new options that make defending a tactical skill in FIFA Soccer 10.  In goal, a myriad of improvements and refinements to goalkeeper intelligence result in a more responsive and powerful rushing system and ultra-realistic saves.

"We have benefited from 275 million games played online to refine FIFA Soccer 10 in a way that matters most to our fans," said Andrew Wilson, Vice President and Executive Producer for the FIFA Soccer franchise. "We've listened and responded to their feedback to improve player control, responsiveness and intelligence and create what we believe is the world's most authentic soccer videogame."

Listening to feedback and addressing gamer frustrations has become a key part of the EA SPORTS strategy to improve the FIFA Soccer franchise on an annual basis. Better balance on lofted through balls, improved goalkeeper intelligence, more realistic shooting mechanics with less shots hitting the goal posts, a practice arena to perfect skills, and a more immersive soccer experience through continuous play and quick free kicks are just a few of the issues raised by fans and addressed in FIFA Soccer 10.

Three new innovations revealed today at E3 have been developed to change the player control experience in FIFA Soccer 10. The first-ever true 360° dribbling system gives players finer control of the ball, enabling them to find spaces between defenders that previously were not possible. Using an all-new animation technology, skilled dribblers now have the ability to face the defender and use highly responsive lateral dribbling to skip past him. An innovative concept called Freedom in Physical Play enables players to perform wider dribble touches and new collision sharing creates a varied, less predictable, and extended fight for possession between the dribbler and a defender.

FIFA Soccer 10 also features a deeper iteration of the ever-popular Manager Mode with more than 50 major improvements, including new match realism, realistic player transfers based on multiple decision points, and true-to-life player growth curves.

New game modes, and innovations to popular features like Be A Pro, will be revealed in the upcoming months.

I hope tht they haven't changed it too much. Fifa 09 was very good and withh too many changes they may run the risk of making it worse!

I don't know how much more EA can upgrade from 09, 09 feels so smooth and realistic but I'm anxious to see what they have lined up for us in 10.

due to the past franchise made by the ea sports fifa 09 i know that fifa 10 would be more realistic and ball controls easier especially the 360 dribbling

Creads: I know what you're saying. I wasn't impressed by the video either but I could tell that they tweaked a few things. I think that the video is from early production and I'm sure that the final game will look much better.

Jme1905: First of all. CALM. DOWN. The Dutch national team license belongs to Konami so EA isn't allowed to put the actual Dutch squad into the game. Just manage the squad yourself if it makes you that angry. Also. Russian teams aren't in the game b/c of software piracy issues in the country. It's also why there aren't teams like Red Star Belgrade...same issue in Serbia. Finally. If you can't score FKs w/ anyone not named Ronaldo then you're just not that good at the game. I can score FKs w/ smaller teams and I'm not that good of a player.

this article makes this new game sound like a huge leap forward for the game. however, watching the gameplay video on the ea sports media lounge.. i have to say that i was quite dissappointed in how similar it looks to the previous game. I always found that whilst playing the game i was always limited massively by how limited the dribbling options are. and when i read this article i had hoped that the dribbling system used had changed so much that it could not be compared to the previous game on this aspect. However, the only real dribbling i saw whilst watching the gameplay video involved the player doing a trick that was identical to one that could be done in fifa 09.
I dont know why, but for some reason i thought extra effort may have been put into fifa 10, but it clearly hasnt. i just hope the gameplay video they have provided does not trully show the gameplay in the final game.
Fifa is a game that overall is good, but has so many tiny issues when you get down to the nitty gritty, these tiny problems do add up

I totally agree with brownieman182, but i also think that the injuries should be more detailed. Leg breaks, head clashing and torn muscles, onfield treatment and stretchers would make the manager mode more appealing so that you must use reserve players and bring them into the senior squad. Proper reserve and youth players should be included into a team as well. And if a player takes a knock and the manager isnt happy a little PiP should show the manager sending players to warm up for replacing the injured one. Build up your stadium and earn sponsorships instead of just chosing one for manager mode. Create a team and kits would also be a good addition.More licensed boots and little things like head bands and compression shorts would keep players happy.More domestic leagues in Scotland and other countries. Ballon D'Or award and golden boot award should be included. Proper contracts and incentives for players in manager mode and better free kick attacking and defending. Shirt pulling is another thing that happens everyday in football and should be included.Historic club and country teams like they way Madden NFL and NHL games have.

I think EA should incorporate some controversy. Talking points are what make the game so unpredictable and exciting, would be great if when playing against your mate at 0-0 there's a dubious goal which should have been called offside but the goal's given, whereas currently like 'prins' said, if you're a pixel offside the game stops, would make games a whole lot more interesting if there were some controversial goals or reffing decisions

I don't think one of these comments made sense. Prins has some good ideas though.
