EA SPORTS Group of the Week
HAWKS_SMALL
By Justin Dewiel

April 23, 2009

The Lowdown

The Hawks group page here on EA SPORTS World has a lot of similarities to the real life Hawks in the way that they have remained a contender throughout the entire year, but have received little attention up until this point. Hawks' fans have been busy uploading their highlights of Josh Smith slamming a shot down and Joe Johnson hitting yet another game winner. Outside of the usual stars featured in the Top 10's, the Hawks players get a lot of attention. Despite the lack of blogs recently from Hawks' fans here on EA SPORTS World, I expect the conversation to pick up over the next few weeks as the Hawks continue on in the 2009 NBA Playoffs.

Team History

When you think of Hawks basketball, the first person that comes to mind is Dominique Wilkins and his high flying dunks of the 1980's. The Hawks have never been a dominant NBA team like the Celtics and Lakers, but they have always been an entertaining team to watch. Everyone remembers Spud Webb winning the slam dunk contest and the excitement that he brought to the city.

The current edition of the Atlanta Hawks is at least, if not more exciting than the ones of the past. The team is full of young stars in Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Al Horford, and Marvin Williams who are led by the veteran and former all-star Mike Bibby. In last year's playoffs, they forced the eventual World Champion Boston Celtics to seven games and look to be on their way to a playoff series victory after their dominant game one victory over the Miami Heat. The reward for beating the Heat in the first round looks to be a second round match up against the Cavs, but if there is one team in the Eastern Conference that can push the Cavs in a seven game series, it's the Atlanta Hawks.

The EA SPORTS Group Page Challenge

Our challenge to the Hawks fans out there: Continue to be active on the site and publish all of your latest videos and blogs relating to your Atlanta Hawks to the Hawks group page. This can be done by choosing the Hawks under the "Publish to Group" option next to your videos or right under your blogs when you are creating them. We want to use this as a one stop place for community members to go to see the best the Hawks' fans have to offer on EA SPORTS World. This challenge goes out to all groups out there. We want to see who can be the group that has the most members posting videos and blogs to and interacting on their team's page on a daily basis. Is it going to be the Hawks' fans or someone else? It's all up to you!
