Kobra's Corner: 2-4-5 Blitz

March 25, 2009

By Paul "Kobra" Gleason

Don't forget to check out this week's video on the here on the Madden NFL landing page.

In this week's edition of Kobra's Corner, I want to take look at a 2-4-5 Blitz. The Ray Smoke is a real easy set up that brings inside pressure from the LILB.

The 2-4-5 Ray Smoke has the NB blitzing on the left side (as you look at the screen).

What we like to do is move him to the right side. Notice he is lined up about five yards from the line of scrimmage. Be sure to watch the video breakdown, because we show other areas on the field where he can be moved without effecting the blitz.

Notice his blitz angle is shooting outside of the right tackle despite us moving from the left side to the right side.

With four defenders blitzing on the right side of the offensive line, the LILB is often left unblocked.

The reason for this is because the C blocks the RILB, the RG blocks the SDT, and the RT looks to block the NB.

Even if the FB is left in to block, they normally can't get over to block the LILB.

In the screen shot above, you can see the FB trying to get back to block the LILB, ...

... but he is a few steps to late and the result is a sack.

Final Thoughts

A very simple set up that requires little effort and that's what we are all looking for when it comes to blitz schemes. The only thing you may need to do is make sure the LILB doesn't move. If he does, move him back so he lines up just outside of the SDT.
