Kobra's Corner: Out n Ups By Paul "Kobra" Gleason January 21, 2009 In the Madden 08 Filmroom, I showed how I like to run the Split Backs 3WR Out N Ups to beat zone coverage. In Madden 09, it's still just as effective.

The Split Backs 3WR Out N Ups has the SE (X) and FL (B) running mirror routes. What I like about them both running Out N Up routes is I can go to either side. For this write up, I am just going to show how I like to throw to the FL. In the video breakdown, I show how I like to throw FL as well.

For this write up, the defense used is 4-3 Normal Cover 3.

To set this play up, all we want to do is hot route the SL (A) on a streak.

Once the ball is snapped, the LCB will drop straight back at first.

Once the FL breaks towards the side line is where things start to get interesting.

Instead of the LCB sticking with the FL, he will go towards the inside to cover the slot receiver running the streak route down the seam.

By him doing this, he leaves the FL open once he breaks up the field on the up portion of his pass route.

Because of the separation between the LCB and FL, the LCB will have a hard time getting back in position to cover the FL. When making the pass, we want to throw it hard right so that only the FL can make the grab.

For those of you who can't rocket or manual catch, no need to worry since the CPU will get the receiver in position to make the catch for you.

If you can rocket or manual catch, it makes it that much easier to pick up yardage deep down the field.
Final Thoughts In the video breakdown, I go into detail of how to run Out N Ups by throwing not only to the FL, but also the SE and HB. Also I show how this concept works against other types of pass coverage as well.
