NBA LIVE Challenge Update

February 4, 2009

Welcome to the 2009 NBA Live Challenge bought to you by the folks here at EA SPORTS. This year's NBA Live Challenge returns in search of the best NBA Live gamers around the country.  We will travel to 11 regional stops as one finalist from each city will travel to NBA ALL-STAR weekend in Phoenix, AZ for a chance at $20,000 cash and a $5,000 shopping spree with our official retail sponsor Best Buy.

The EA SPORTS Live Gossip Wire is also back by request to bring you authentic quotes as Commissioner Mike Brown will bring you Q and A coverage with each regional winner.

Philadelphia Live Wire:

Philadelphia, PA (Gallery)

A great man once said, "Take a look at it and learn to love it...I'm custom made from head to toe." Rick Flair 1988.  You may want to refer to You Tube if you're under the age of 30 and never heard of the Nature Boy.  Parallel that with the statement made by Anthony "Kid Gorgeous" DiNardi... "I'm the real deal, point blank and enough said."

In similar fashion and flair, Kid Gorgeous kind of reminds me of the Nature Boy in a lot of ways.  Was it the fact that he was sporting a v-necked white undershirt and pink button down, accompanied by a beautiful young lady on his arm?  One thing is certain; he speaks with the same confidence as the great one.

Anthony also known as "Tony Bangz," made the comment after claiming the Philadelphia regional Saturday night.  After much talk and speculation about the growing mystic of Tony Bangz, he silenced all the critics about him being an online baller and showed that he has what it takes to do it "Live style."

Take a look at my interview with him immediately following his regional victory:

Commish: Can I simply call you kid? I'm not completely comfortable looking into another man's eyes and referring to him as gorgeous.  Everyone has been talking about you...tell us why.

Kid Gorgeous: (laughing)  "Simply put, I'm the man.  I'm ranked number 12 online right now and I know that doesn't mean much to most but people talk about me for a reason and today you now know why."

Commish: Let's talk about that, you are perceived as an online baller in the NBA Live community.  Why is that and what took you so long to make a tournament appearance?

Kid Gorgeous: "I actually attended the New York regional last year but I wasn't as good as I am right now.  I wasn't elite until the end of the 08 NBA Live season and I'm just picking up where I left off from last year.  As far as online goes, I use online to lab, I don't consider myself an online baller by any means.  I use online to get a look at what works and what doesn't work for the main show, which was the Philly regional today.  Obviously, my plan worked to perfection."

Commish: Online baller or not, most of our regional winners seem to know who you are.

Kid Gorgeous: "I honestly have the up-most respect for everyone that has won cities thus far but I don't feel that any of them are better than me.  They are all obviously good because they won their city and I'm not trying to be arrogant in any way but, I just feel like I'm on another level right now."

Commish: Is there at least one guy that you feel may be close to your skill level right now?

Kid Gorgeous: "There is one guy that will make a lot of noise out there and that is, Jordan "get your hands up" Simmons.  He has a tough offense that will be rolling out there."

Commish: I'm surprised that you didn't mention our defending champion Ace-Deuce.

Kid Gorgeous: "Well I'm a little disappointed in what Ace said about me in his interview but he is going to see what I'm all about in Phoenix.  He can come and get it on the sticks because I'm going to be waiting for him."

Commish: Where do you stack up amongst the competition heading into Phoenix?

Kid Gorgeous: "I'm definitely one of the toughest out there right now and have been for some time now, and I'm going on record to say that I guarantee victory in Phoenix!"

Commish: That's a bold prediction; most shy away from guaranteeing victory.  What does a guy like Kid Gorgeous do with all of that money if he wins the whole thing?

Kid Gorgeous: Well first things first, I'll head to the dealership, I've got my eyes set on a cute little two door black Honda Accord.  You know...Gorgeous needs to ride gorgeous!  Secondly, you know that I must stay fly (clothing) and maybe even a nice ring for Ms. Gorgeous to the right of me.  Outside of that, having some nice pocket money would be nice for a college freshman.

Commish: Speaking of money, you were money all day with ally-oops with those Phoenix Suns.  I have to admit it was a first for me in seeing anyone play that style of ball.

Kid Gorgeous: "Everyone else runs the pick and roll offense which is much too basic to win with.  Anyone that runs the pick and roll against me will get pinned.  Just take a look at when Cali King and Smitty attempted it on me, I know how to control and stop the pick and roll if need be when I want.  Except for one game, I won by 20 or more points against everyone I faced.  I have a unique offense that gives me more than one option to win. If you focus on one aspect, I'll beat you with another.  Simply put, I have a gorgeous offensive game plan."

Until next time...  Commissioner Brown...out!
