NBA LIVE Producer Blog: ESPN NBA Game of the Week

February 26, 2009

By Garreth Reeder

Hey guys, I was out sick yesterday so the ESPN Game of the Week update is a little late. Following the ASW break we had the Sunday Celtics @ Suns matchup. There was a lot of turmoil going into the weekend with the trade deadline and the Suns firing Terry Porter. In the end, no major trades but a potentially season ending injury to Amare has left the Suns reeling. The Celtics are feeling the pinch a little as well, with KG going down with a knee injury. When Sunday rolled around the Celtics really handed it to the Suns, with Rondo playing a great game.

Let's take a look at the numbers from the Game of the Week results in NBA LIVE 09:

Once again the Celtics don't appear to translate as well in the game as they do in real life. The Suns spanked the Cs with a 64% win record. Most of the Game of the Week PPG totals have been close, but in this matchup it's clear that Suns fans really racked up the points showing an average advantage of 11. They also shot the ball much better overall, perhaps a result of the fast break.

Once again you Boston fans will get your chance for revenge, with the Celtics playing at home against the Pistons in ESPN's Game of the Week. With KG out it will be a tougher matchup than Detroit's 27 - 27 record suggests. Pierce and Ray Ray will have to play well to win. It will be interesting on the Detroit side to see if Rasheed can take advantage and take some shots away from AI.

I'll post back next Monday with the results.
