This is a perfect week of NFL entertainment. We have a Thursday Night game that has playoff implications. Every team is playing (no bye-weeks). And to top it all off, the EA SPORTS Madden NFL 2009 sim-team has gone WAY out on a limb this week predicting more upsets than I can remember. Last week they correctly predicted 11 of the 14 games. On the year they are an impressive 81-58. SPOILER ALERT!!! Here are your Madden NFL 2009 Week 11 winners.![]()
Thursday Night Football

Prediction: Jets 10 v. Patriots 17
The winner takes sole possession of the AFC East Division. The Patriots beat the Jets in the second week of the season 19-10. You could argue that Brett Favre was not completely up to speed with the playbook and that now, nine weeks later, the Jets will be able to put up more than the 10 they did in their first meeting. With the latest season ending injury to LB Adalius Thomas the Patriots are less than they were in the second week. The sim-team missed this one. It is going to be a "J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!" kind of Thursday night.
Sunday Afternoon

Prediction: Raiders 13 v. Dolphins 16
I do not see JaMarcus Russell playing in this game. He is nursing a knee injury and missed last week. The Raiders have given up on this season. The latest sign the towel has been thrown in was the dismissal of former pro-bowler DeAngelo Hall from the team. As the Raiders look to next year, I think all the Raiders really need to compete for a Super Bowl appearance is a better offensive line, a consistent running game, a quarterback who can lead the team, an owner that will leave the coaches and players alone, some heart, a lot more discipline, a desire to win... they do have a good kicker though. For Miami, Ted Ginn Jr. needs to become a premier wide-receiver to complement Greg Camarillo who has become the team's most capable receiving threat.

Prediction: Lions 23 v. Panthers 34
Jake Delhomme needs to forget last week ever happened. It was record setting, but not in a good way. Against the Raiders, Delhomme threw for a career low 72 yards and a career high four interceptions. Will the Lions win their first game if Daunte Culpepper starts? No. But if Drew Stanton starts, the Lions may spur the league to enact an NFL "mercy rule".

Prediction: Bears 20 v. Packers 33
Where is Devin Hester's 2008 highlight real? Does Hester still return kicks for the Bears? He had 11 returns for touchdowns in his first two seasons. So far this year, he's got zero. It is not his fault though. Opposing teams are kicking the ball out of bounds or pinning Hester against the sidelines rather than risk kicking it to him with room to work. It took the NFL just two years to realize that kicking to Hester is a really bad idea. As close as this game will be, a Hester return will mean a Bears win. Our sim-team predicts another Hester-less game.

Prediction: Saints 27 v. Chiefs 20
Drew Brees is on pace to break Dan Marino's single season passing record of 5,084 set in 1984. Through nine games Brees has 2,985 yards. Here is the weirdest stat from the NFL's web site: In week 10 of Dan Marino's record setting year in '84, Marino threw for 422 yards, 2 TD's and 3 INT's. Last week, Week 10, Brees threw for 422 yards, 2 TD's and 3 INT's. Here is another odd stat. Dan Marino never won a Super Bowl. Neither will Brees.

Prediction: Ravens 28 v. Giants 34
In Super Bowl XXXV the Ravens beat the Giants 34 - 7. Eight years later these two teams look a lot like each other. The Giants clearly have the better quarterback but the difference is not a big as you think between Eli Manning (QB rating 88.8) and Joe Flacco (QB rating 79.7). This game features two of the best rushing offenses (Giants are 1st, the Ravens are 3rd). You will also see two of the best defenses (Giants are 2nd, the Raven are 3rd). I disagree with our sim-team here. You will also see the Ravens score a big-time upset win in New York.
Prediction: Eagles 30 v. Bengals 20
The Eagles have historically featured some of the best defensive players in the NFL. This year LB Stewart Bradley is their best and leads the team in tackles with 64. After losing to the Giants, the Eagles find themselves in a hole having lost all of their Divisional games. An easy team like the Bengals will be the rope out of that hole.

Prediction: Vikings 16 v. Buccaneers 23
Remember Cadillac Williams? In week four of last year's season Williams tore his knee up but this could be his return game. Unfortunately for him, the talent in the backfield has gotten a little more crowded with Earnest Graham and Warrick Dunn. Speaking of running backs... that Adrian Peterson kid is pretty good but the sim-team is predicting just 39 yards rushing for AD.

Prediction: Texans 10 v. Colts 21
In every year of their existence the Texans have been looking up at the Colts in their division. This year is no different. Even with their injuries and with Peyton Manning at 75% the Colts are still significantly better.

Prediction: Broncos 30 v. Falcons 33
The Broncos have had running backs for as long as I can remember. At times they had too many running backs for us fantasy football geeks. This year, the Broncos have almost nothing in the running game. Michael Pittman, Andre Hall and Ryan Torain have all suffered season ending injuries. Selvin Young is clearly not 100% with a groin injury. It has gotten so bad Peyton Hillis, a rookie fullback, gets the nod. Matt Ryan and the Falcons will take care of business here.
Prediction: Rams 13 v. 49ers 17
It is rare that you can say that a team that is 0-2 under a new head coach is being coached well but the 49ers really are a well coached team under Mike Singletary. If they give the same intensity and effort this week, Singletary's 49ers will get their first win.
Prediction: Cardinals 17 v. Seahawks 20
70 years of quarterback will be on display when Kurt Warner (37) takes the field against Matt Hasselbeck (33). Hasselbeck returns to action after missing the last five games with a neck injury. I have watched the Seahawks and, in my opinion, the Seahawks will be better than they have been with Hasselbeck but they still are just an average team. Our sim-team sees an upset win though for the Seahawks.

Prediction: Titans 26 v. Jaguars 33
Before the season I would have bet that it would have been the Jaguars that were 9-0 and the Titans would be the team struggling to make the playoffs. Truth is the Titans have become what the Jaguars should have become: an elite team of blue-collar players. Here is just another sign of the lack of respect the Titans are getting: the EA SPORTS Madden NFL 2009 Sim-Team is predicting the Titans' first loss.
Prediction: Chargers 23 v. Steelers 19
Tyler Thigpen of the Chiefs threw three touchdowns against the Chargers defense last week in a 20-19 win for the Chargers. That came just one week after the Chargers replaced defensive coordinators. If Ben Roethlisberger is three times the quarterback Thigpen, and he is, the Steelers will score three times the points. I just doubt the Chargers can score more than 57 points. The sim-team disagrees with me.
Sunday Night Football

Cowboys 20 v. Redskins 14
The Redskins made a huge mistake when the signed troubled cornerback DeAngelo Hall. If you sign a "bad guy" hoping he will change his ways and improve your defense the probability is that the team will implode. I should know. I am a Cowboys fan. Has anyone seen Pac Man Jones lately?
Monday Night Football

Browns 16 v. Bills 13
Brady Quinn looked like a very good quarterback in his NFL debut last week. Unfortunately for him, the Broncos brought a great NFL quarterback in Jay Cutler to the game. The good news for Quinn is that this week I think he will be the best quarterback in the game. Bills' QB Trent Edwards has been too inconsistent throwing five picks in his last three games.
